Meme

A meme I found floating around on the internet and, since it is food-themed, I just had to do it! Was surprised to find quite a few things on here that I've never heard of...

The rules:

1. Bold the ones you’ve had
2. Strike through the ones you wouldn’t touch even if you were starving
3. Italicise the things you still want to try
4. Feel free to leave a running commentary.

1. Venison - and i love it! Wildspastei (venison pie), made the way my mom does hers, is truly amazing.
2. Nettle tea
3. Huevos rancheros - being quite fond of Mexican food (can anybody say quesadillas?), I think I'd probably love this.
4. Steak tartare - well I've had carpaccio, but apparently this is different.

5.Crocodile - looks like fish, tastes like chicken. Nothing to write home about really.

6. Black pudding - I'm a bit grossed out by the concept, I have to be honest. But curious nonetheless.
7. Cheese fondue - can you believe I've never had this?
8. Carp
9. Borscht - while I've had beetroop soup, it wasn't borscht. Keen to try it though.
10. Baba ghanoush - I'm a lover of all things aubergine, so this is a winner in my book.
11. Calamari - but preferably not coated in a batter and deep-fried. The way I like my calamari is grilled, with cajun spices. And heaps of garlic and fresh lemon juice.
12. Pho
13. PB&J sandwich - I've had peanutbutter and syrup, but not the classic pb&j. I don't have a big desire to try it either. I think it's an American thing.
14. Aloo gobi
15. Hot dog from a street cart
16. Epoisses - smelly cheese? Hell yeah!
17. Black truffle - Don't know if I'll ever have the opportunity to try this, but would be interesting.
18. Fruit wine made from something other than grapes
19.Steamed pork buns - I've been seeing delicious recipes for this all over the internet recently; I think it might be a sign.
20. Pistachio ice cream - in a word: delicious. But still not my favourite ice-cream flavour..
21. Heirloom tomatoes - not sure how this is different from normal tomatoes (which of course I've had), but I'm assuming there is a difference.
22. Fresh wild berries - mulberries, eaten straight off our neighbours' tree when I was in primary school. And staining my hands into oblivion.
23. Foie gras - I have mixed feelings on this one. It sounds a bit.... iffy what with all the fat, but I do like liver and of course this is a delicacy, so I suppose that I would try it if given the opportunity.
24. Rice and beans - I've had them seperately, but not in the dish implied here.
25. Brawn, or head cheese
26. Raw Scotch Bonnet pepper
27. Dulce de leche - we get it here as caramel in a tin. YUM.
28. Oysters - First had this on honeymoon (how appropriate). To be honest, it didn't knock my socks off. I think I prefer mussles. With a garlicky, creamy white wine sauce.
29. Baklava - syrupy and delicious. Also easier to make than you'd think.
30. Bagna cauda - never heard of it, but after googling it, it sounds delicious. Seriously, where would we have been without google?
31. Wasabi peas
32. Clam chowder in a sourdough bowl
33. Salted lassi - I am in LOVE this.
34. Sauerkraut - Recently tried this for the first time (hesitantly I must add) and it's awesome! Especially in Szegediner Gulasch. Om nom nom. Thank you German Food Festival!
35. Root beer float
36. Cognac with a fat cigar
37. Clotted cream tea - not really being a fan of the whole scones with strawberry jam and cream thing (I have berry issues...), I don't think this would really appeal to me.
38. Vodka jelly - really, what student/former student has not tried this?
39. Gumbo
40. Oxtail
41. Curried goat
42. Whole insects - I've tried a mopani worm. Does that count?
43. Phaal - From what I've read, this would be wayyyyy to hot for me. I like curries, but I'm not a big fan of burning all the feeling off my tongue.
44. Goat’s milk in cheese form - i.e halloumi. Love it.
45. Malt whisky from a bottle worth £60/$120 or more - not being a big whisky fan, this is not a big deal for me. TheHusband would luuuuuuuuurve this though.
46. Fugu
47. Chicken tikka masala
48. Eel - Had it raw as part of a sushi platter.
49. Krispy Kreme original glazed doughnut
50. Sea urchin - I won't say never, but I'm honestly not that keen on the idea...
51. Prickly pear - yummy, but the thorns are a pain.
52. Umeboshi - this sounds interesting
53. Abalone - I'm on the fence with this one, so I'll leave it neutral
54. Paneer - tried it, made it, loved it. And I'll definitely be making it again. It's just so easy and the fact that you are then able to say "I've made my own cheese" is pretty damn cool.
55. McDonald’s Big Mac Meal - Ican't remember whether I've had this specific meal, but I'm not a big fan of McD's in general.
56. Spaetzle - I am in love with this dish. If it wasn't for the copious amounts of butter that goes into my favourite topping, I would probably eat this every second day.
57. Dirty gin martini
58. Beer above 8% ABV - it was a fruit beer (Kriek - cherry) imported from Belgium and I think about 11%. Very good.
59. Poutine - this sounds horribly unhealthy, but also horribly delicious in the same vein.
60. Carob chips
61. S’mores - it seems sad that I have not ever tried this. Again, an American thing...
62. Sweetbreads - hells no!

63. Kaolin - huh?
64. Currywurst
65. Durian - with all the stories about the horrible smell of this fruit, I have to try it out for myself.
66. Frogs’ legs
67.
Beignets, churros, elephant ears or funnel cake - I have been lusting after churros for quite some time now, but alas, we don't get them here, so if I want it I'll have to make it myself.
68.
Haggis - I'm sorry, but this sounds disgusting.
69. Fried plantain - again very curious, but have not ever seen a plantain in the shops over here. :-(
70. Chitterlings, or andouillette
- another no thanks.
71. Gazpacho
72. Caviar and blini
73. Louche absinthe
74.
Gjetost, or brunost - sounds pretty interesting!
75. Roadkill - why??
76.
Baijiu
77. Hostess Fruit Pie - again, American...
78. Snail - doesn't taste bad, but the thought of what you're eating is a bit off-putting.
79.
Lapsang souchong
80. Bellini
81.
Tom yum - definitely still want to try this
82.
Eggs Benedict
83. Pocky
84. Tasting menu at a three-Michelin-star restaurant - meh...
85. Kobe beef
86. Hare - recently saw my local supermarket was stocking this and I'm very tempted to buy one. I have a Jamie Oliver recipe bookmarked for it as well..
87. Goulash
88. Flowers. Sugared rose petals and those flowers you can put in salads... not sure what they're called.
89. Horse - that's a bit too close to home. Like eating dog or cat meat.
90.
Criollo chocolate - it's chocolate. How can I NOT want to try it?
91. Spam
92.Soft shell crab
93.
Rose harissa
94. Catfish
95. Mole poblano - ooh yes!
96. Bagel and lox
97.
Lobster Thermidor
98. Polenta - and loving it. Especially with blue cheese.
99. Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee
100. Snake.
